Recruiting News

Below, some recruiting news from around the Ivy League. Above, UMass transfer, Max Groebe (left) and Kentucky transfer, Mark Coury (right), will help Cornell stay on top of the Ivy League.

NJHoops.com reports that Archbishop Wood High School's (Warminster, Pa.) Fran Dougherty, a 6'8" forward mentioned Cornell, Penn, Princeton, Holy Cross, Quinnipiac and Stonehill as the schools showing interest in his recruitment. When asked what he was looking for in a school, Dougherty said: "I'm looking for a school where I can get a good education with a chance to play right away."

Cameron Gunter, a 6'8" forward out of Ridley High School in Ridley, PA told RecruitRecon that he has taken unofficial visits to Penn, Drexel and UMBC. Potential visits to Holy Cross and possibly Northeastern are also being considered. In addition to those schools, he is being recruited by Cornell, Princeton, Iona and West Chester.

Rivals.com com reports that Penn is showing interest in Will Thompson, a 6'1" combo guard from Skyline High School in Dallas. He is a member of the class of 2011.

Finally, this comes from the Daily Chronicle on the recruitment of Dave Dudzinski:
Kaneland senior basketball standout Dave Dudzinski returned last week from an East Coast vacation in which he visited Princeton, Penn, Yale, Brown, Cornell and Army.

Dudzinski said it was an enlightening trip.

“Sitting out here in Illinois you kind of think of all those schools as being the exact same but they’re not,” Dudzinski said, referring to the Ivy League universities in that bunch. “They were all very different from each other so it was good to get a feel for each and every school.”

Ivy League schools are mostly only able to offer financial aid packages that are available to the entire student body but Dudzinski said basketball programs tend to “have a little more pull, so you can get a pretty good deal.”

Dudzinski, one of the top students in Kaneland’s senior class, is serious about the possibility of attending an Ivy League school.

“You can’t really beat an Ivy League education so if I can get it at a severely discounted rate, it’s something I’m going to consider,” Dudzinski said.

The 6-foot-8 center is also considering Loyola and might make late visits to Evansville and Indiana State. He said he hopes to make his decision in the next month.
