Recruiting News: Harvard Lands Elite Verbal Commitment

Below, some Ivy League recruiting news. Above, the 2007-2008 Ivy League Player of the Year, Cornell's Louis Dale.

CNNSI.com published a brief story on three potential Harvard recruits. But most importantly, the article breaks the news that Pe'Shon Howard from Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia committed to Harvard. He told CNNSI, "If the admission office clears me, I'm going to Harvard." Howard has scholarship offers from Arkansas, Cal, Maryland, USC, Virginia and several other high major programs.

There is also an article in the Providence Journal on Harvard's first verbal commitment from the class of 2010, Matt Brown.

Scout.com reports that Brown, Rice, Fairfield and Toledo have all offered 6'2" guard, Brady Helslip of Nelson Lords High School in Burlington, Ontario, the same school which produced Cornell alum, Graham Dow ('07).

Scout is also reporting that Princeton, Drake, Stetson, William & Mary, Northeastern and Wright State among those looking at Edgewater High School's Kendrick Perry, a 5'10" guard from Orlando.

MinnesotaPreps.com reports that Columbia and Harvard are showing interest in 5'10" Vinard Birch of Eagen, Minnesota and Eastview High School. Bucknell, Drake, Citadel, and Western Michigan are also showing interest.

H0vpenSports.com reports that Harvard, Air Force and Wyoming have all offered 6'0" point guard, Curry Sexton of Abilene, Kansas. Kansas and Kansas State are also interested.

Chris McNealy, a 6'3" shooting guard from San Ramon, California has an offer from St. Mary's but is also getting looks from Penn, Yale, Davidson, Stanford, Lehigh, and Santa Clara among others according to NorCalPreps.com.

RecruitRecon reports that 6'10" post, Matt Lopez of Washington Twp., New Jersey committed to La Salle. He received some interest from Cornell. He had offers from North Carolina Greensboro, Buffalo, James Madison William and Mary Old Dominion and Lehigh, Delaware, and New Hampshire.

Scout.com reports that 6'5" Jeremy Jeffers of the Greenfield School in Wilson, North Carolina wants to visit Drake, Harvard, Bucknell, Auburn and Davidson.

Northstar Basketball has updates on three Ivy prospects. Kaleb Clyburn a 5'9" guard of Montverde Academy in Florida has offers from Colgate and Boston University, but his leader is Columbia. He is also hearing from Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Dartmouth, Princeton, Florida State, Central Florida, Appalachian State, Loyola Marymount, and Lehigh

Dominic Lane, a 6'1" guard out of Lakewood, Florida has no offers but is receiving interest from Princeton, Harvard, Navy, Lehigh, Miami, South Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Stetson, Virginia Commonwealth, North Florida, and Jacksonville. Harvard and Miami are his leaders.

Rob Poole, a 6'4" member of the class of 2011 from Paul VI high school in New Jersey has offers from Fairfield, Delaware, New Hampshire, Monmouth, Rider, and Hartford. His leaders are Delaware, Siena and Fairfield. He is also hearing from Penn, Penn State, and Minnesota. He noted, "I visited UPenn [on Thursday], but I like Delaware. I like the coaching staff.”
