Recruiting News

Below, some recruiting news from around the Ivy League. Above, Cornell's Mark Coury (No. 42), a transfer from Kentucky.

Josh Huestis, a 6'7" forward from Montana told SCNation.com that he enjoyed his recent visit to USC. He also noted that he had an in-home visit with Harvard on Wednesday. “It was good, I finally got to meet the coach. He showed us some academic videos and then basketball highlight tapes. I really didn’t know what to expect because I haven’t had a lot of exposure to Ivy League basketball living this far away. It seems like a good program." But Harvard won’t be his last visitor. Oregon State came for a home visit on Thursday and they’ll be followed by Colorado today, USC on Sunday, Stanford on the 14th and Rice on the 15th. Additionally, he’s talking to Georgetown and Gonzaga about possible in home visits. Huestis expects to visit Harvard next weekend.

Jeremy Jeffers, a 6'8" wing, from Wilson (N.C.) Greenfield HS committed to Drake this week according to Scout.com, He had offers from Harvard, Davidson, Bucknell and UNC-Wilmington.

Northstar Basketball Blog spoke with 6'8" Majok Majok of Northfield Mt. Hermon School (MA). Thus far, Majok has offers from Harvard, Georgia Tech, George Mason, Providence, Stanford, Marquette, Oklahoma St. John's, Penn State, Minnesota, Temple, Virginia Tech, Alabama and Boston College, along with many others still evaluating him.

Northstar also spoke with Denzel Brito of Lawrence Academy (MA), a 6'0" guard. He has offers from Harvard, Fordham, Quinnipiac, Delaware, Georgia Southern, Boston University, New Hampshire, Niagara, and Bucknell. He noted, "I have only seen Stanford, Fordham, UNH, and BU, so I'm in the process of trying to set up visits. I have scheduled one official for Quinnipiac and the rest are undecided. I will see where else I plan on visiting in the fall, as many, many coaches will be in our gym."

Mustafa Jones, a 6'1" guard out of Neumann-Goretti (PA) has offers from Columbia, Toledo, Howard, Delaware, Hartford, Rider, and Lehigh. He is also getting interest from Penn and Colgate. "I like all of them. I haven't narrowed it down yet," replied Mustafa when asked if he has any favorites. "I went to Toledo, Howard, Lehigh, Columbia, [and] UPenn. I haven't gone on any officials yet." As of now, he has not scheduled any official visits, but stated, "I'm planning on taking one to [both] Toledo and Howard."

New England Recruiting Report notes that Rod Odom, a 6'8" forward from the Middlesex School in Massachusetts has the following in-home visits planned:

September 11th, morning- Georgia Tech
September 11th, afternoon- West Virginia
September 11th, evening- Arizona
September 13th, morning- Harvard
September 13th, afternoon- Vanderbilt

NBE Basketball Report spoke with Northfield Mount Hermon's Hector Harold, a 6'8" forward. Harold said, “I have officials set up to Colorado for the 18th of September, Utah for the 25th, and maybe Hawaii for the 22nd of October. All three have offered including UTEP and Pepperdine.” He is also getting recruiting attention from the Ivies. Meanwhile teammate, 6'5" Laurent Rivard is planning official visits to Bucknell (this weekend), Davidson and Elon with visits also planned to some Ivy League programs.

MinnesotaPreps.com reports that Shelby Moats, a 6'8" forward from Waconia, Minnesota is gettign recruitment attention from Harvard, Penn, Princeton, UW-Green Bay, UW-Milwaukee, South Dakota State, Iowa State, University of Denver, Butler, Northern Iowa, Colorado State, Minnesota, Liberty University, and Iowa. His high school coach, Pat Hayes noted, "UW-Green Bay, UW-Milwaukee, and South Dakota State have offered. Denver, Butler, Northern Iowa, and Colorado State are visiting. Ron Jirsa of Minnesota called to check in, may visit again this Fall. Iowa had him at camp, but haven't heard much from them. Utah is coming in this Sunday for open gym as well." He is a member of the class of 2011.

Also in the class of 2011, Jake Guenther, a 6'5" guard from SE Polk HS in Pleasant Hill, Iowa is hearing from Yale and Northern Iowa according to IowaPreps.com.
