The Case for Cornell Basketball

Similar to the published content in Cornell's media guides for all of its athletic teams, in our regular series, "The Case for Cornell Basketball," we post information which we believe demonstrates that Cornell is one of the most attractive college basketball program in the country for its players.

Notable this week, Ithaca, N.Y., home of Cornell's main campus was ranked by the American Institute for Economic research as the top collegetown in America for cities with populations under 250,000 people (click here and see the story in USA Today).

The American Institute explains, "Choosing the right college isn’t just about professors and classes. Conversations in coffee houses, performances in concert halls, and opportunities for corporate internships also contribute to education. That’s why AIER’s latest publication, the College Destinations Index: 2009-10 Edition assesses a location’s broader learning environment."

It is this point that separates Cornell from its Ivy League peers. While at other Ivy colleges, one can tour an entire campus in just under a few hours, it takes most Cornellians a lifetime to see all of Cornell's campus and its learning environment.

Although Cornell's main campus in Ithaca consists of 745 acres on the main campus site and an additional attached 4,000 acres on the Cornell Plantations, the Cornell campus extends far beyond the reaches of Ithaca, New York. No cliche, Cornell is literally a global campus.
