Recruiting News

Below, some additional recruiting news from around the Ivy League...

Although Harvard has no winning tradition in basketball, maintains poor basketball facilities and an apathetic student body that rarely attends athletic events, the Crimson have done a nice job getting some blue chip prospects to at least consider Harvard as a possible college choice.

"I have offers from Harvard, Rutgers, Virginia, Virginia Tech, USC, USF, Tennessee, Stanford, and Cal," highly touted Pe’Shon Howard told Rivals.com. The 6'2" guard from Oak Hill Academy in Virginia said Harvard is his leader. "Situation wise it is a great school, and Harvard has coaches who have been at big time schools," said Howard. "I love to help turn the program around."

Keala King, a 6'5" point guard from Compton, California's Dominguez high school told Rivals.com that plans to sign in the spring, but he is presently considering offers from Harvard, Stanford, California, Arizona, Arizona State, Michigan and Kentucky. Although, Harvard has very little chance of landing King. He said the four Pac-10 schools are at the top of his list.

But Harvard is not the only Ivy League school talking to high level recruits. Scout.com reports that Cornell is in the running for 6'6" combo forward, Akil Mitchell of the Charlotte Christian School in Charlotte, North Carolina. Maryland, Virginia, Harvard and Yale are also in pursuit while Mitchell already holds scholarship offers to Wright State and Navy.

Jordan Downing, a 6'5 "shooting guard/small forward from Hopewell High School in Huntersville, North Carolina has scholarship offers from Davidson, Winthrop, Wright State, UNC Greensboro, The Citadel, and Liberty, and Wichita State. Meanwhile, Dartmouth, Harvard, Bucknell Northwestern, Xavier, Nebraska, South Carolina, Tulsa, Air Force, VCU, LSU, and Auburn are also staying involved.

Additionally, many of Cornell's top recruiting targets have not been mentioned on The Cornell Basketball Blog.
