Recruiting News

Below, some recruiting news from around the Ivy League...

Cornell had one of its elite class of 2010 targets on campus this week. The prospect holds offers to programs in higher level conferences, but Cornell is his leader.

Lots of videos on YouTube from Cornell's latest commitment, Jake Matthews of Greensburg-Salem High School in Greensburg, Pa. Definitely check them out (also do searches for his high school). What you will notice about both Matthews (a 6'2" combo guard), as well as of Cornell's other freshman commit, 6'6" Manny Sahota (a wing forward) of D'Youville High School in Brampton, Ontario is that both players are "long"- and athletic- can shoot from the outside, have excellent mid range games, and can put the ball on the floor and get into the lanes. And most important, both kids play for championship teams and love playing the game. They bring good attitudes to Cornell and are high character people. The types of kids that have made Cornell champions of the Ivy League for two consecutive seasons.

In other recruiting news...

Chase Plummer, a 6'5" wing from St. Patrick's High School in Elizabeth, N.J. told RecruitRecon.com, “I hold offers from Canisius, Robert Morris, UMBC, Boston U, Quinnipiac and Marist. So far I've visited 2 schools which were Boston U and UMBC. Hopefully I can gain a little more interest and get a couple more good basketball looks before I make my decision.” He also informed RecruitRecon that UMBC is one of his front runners. Other schools showing varying degrees of interest include, Brown, Penn, Princeton, La Salle, Miami, Siena and St. Joe's.

Dennis Clifford, a 6'11" center out of the class of 2011 from Milford Academy in Massachusetts picked up his first two division I offers career earlier this week after visiting both Northeastern and Princeton unofficially. “I liked both schools, especially both coaching staffs, very much,” Clifford told the New England Recruiting Report. He said he’s also hearing from Cornell, Brown, Lafayette, Siena, Holy Cross, Vanderbilt, Rhode Island, Quinnipiac, Providence, and Boston University. He said he hopes to visit both Boston University and Lafayette sometime in the next month but is nowhere near trimming his list and doesn’t anticipate having a good idea as to what he will do until next summer.

As for campus visits...

Harvard target, Rod Odom, a 6'8" forward from Middlesex (Mass.) School will visit UConn this weekend.

Cornell target, DeMon Brooks, 6'5" wing from Hopewell High School in Huntersville, N.C. visits Northeastern this weekend. The Huskies have already offered a scholarship and so has Davidson, Wright State, Appalachian State, College of Charleston and Howard. He is visiting Wright State next weekend.
