Cornell head basketball coach, Steve Donahue and Anthony Grant, Alabama's new head coach, are not exactly strangers when their two squads collide in the season opener on November 14 in Tuscaloosa. Donahue was one of four coaches that served as "court coaches" for the 2008 USA Men's U18 National Team Trials from July 1-3, 2008 at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. Grant was an assistant coach on the team while, Davidson College's Bob McKillop served as head coach.
Cornell will also face Davidson in Madison Square Garden on December 20. Before the game was scheduled, Donahue mentioned to the Cornell Daily Sun last summer, “I think that Davidson-Cornell would be a good match. The two schools have similar academic missions, and that would be a good game. In the right situation [it would be great to play] Davidson..."
Madison Square Garden and television exposure sure sounds like the right situation.
