News and Notes: Around the Ivy League

Below, some news and notes around the Ivy League.
  • What is going on with Penn's roster? Two recruited "preferred walk-ons"--Malcolm Washington and Tommy Eggleston, both reportedly played in Penn's Red-Blue intersquad scrimmage on Saturday along with the 15 other members of the Penn varsity basketball team. Nevertheless, Penn has not listed Washington or Eggleston on the team's official roster. What gives? The Quakers are projected to have a twenty-three (23) player roster in 2010-2011, which we believe is the largest roster among 347 Division I teams.
  • Speaking of the Red-Blue scrimmage, reports indicate the Malcolm Washington was Penn's most impressive newcomer, while veteran medical red-shirts Darren Smith and Andreas Schreiber, both looked strong, particularly the latter.
  • We previously reported that Cornell would scrimmage Navy and Lafayette this season, while Harvard takes on Quinnipiac. Sources are indicating that Penn will also face Quinnipiac, as well as a tilt with the MEAC's Coppin State. All of these scrimmages are closed door.
  • Cornell's Red-White scrimmage on Saturday did not feature Kentucky-transfer, Mark Coury. The 6'9" post player sat the game out with a minor hamstring injury which was suffered during the team's first practice a week ago.
