Cornell Recruit Errick Peck Showcases All Around Skills

Cornell recruit, Errick Peck, a rugged 6'6" forward from Indianapolis, Cathedral High School is continuing to draw rave reviews from observers for his stellar performance during Indiana's Senior vs. Junior All-Star game series.

Strong and athletic, Peck could play either forward position in the Ivy League. But as he continues to develop his perimeter skills, primarily handling the basketball and creating his own shot, he may also be utilized by Cornell in the backcourt. At this stage in his development though, The Cornell Basketball Blog projects him as a very similar player to last season's Ivy League Player of the Year, Alex Barnett, a physical 6'5" forward with similar inside/outside skills. And despite Cornell's tremendous depth of returning talent in 2009-2010, Peck may still find himself in the rotation. He is just that good.

I continue to be stunned by the development of Cathedral's Errick Peck. After scoring a team-high 19 points against the juniors on Tuesday, Peck scored 17 on Thursday on 7-for-11 shooting. He also made both his 3-point attempts. The amazing thing to me is how the 6-6 Peck has transformed his game as a post player during the high school season to a guard this summer. Granted, these are all-star games and he hasn't had guards pressuring him with the ball, but his talent is obvious. He should be a good one at Cornell.
Meanwhile, the Washington Times-Herald described a sequence in the second senior-junior game as follows:

[Trey] Hughes also found out just how athletic all-star competition can be a couple of minutes later. Again driving to the basket off the lefthanded dribble, Hughes jump stopped in the lane to allow a defender to fly by, then went up for what briefly appeared to be an open shot. But out of nowhere came 6-7 Errick Peck of Indianapolis Cathedral, a Cornell recruit. Peck blocked Hughes’ shot and nearly hurdled Hughes as he flew by the 6-1 Viking guard.
