The Ithaca Journal recaps the 2008-2009 year in athletics in the Ithaca area. The Journal notes, "Cornell men's basketball team: After winning its second straight Ivy League title, Cornell lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Missouri, 78-59, on March 20."The Journal also recognizes two key dates during the 2008-2009 season:
* Dec. 26: Cornell men's basketball coach Steve Donahue is named the Van Sickle Male Coach of the Year by The Journal.
* Feb. 13: Junior Ryan Wittman breaks Cornell's career record for 3-pointers and the Big Red set a single-game record for assists (31) in a 96-75 win over Harvard.
