News and Notes

Below, some news and notes...
  • Following last night's 88-73 defeat to No. 9 Syracuse (Big East), Cornell is 2-2 picking up victories over Alabama (SEC), UMass (A-10) and also falling to Seton Hall (Big East). But even in the losses, Cornell was competitive heading into the halftimes. There are not too many teams in the country that would play these four teams (three on the road and all in eleven days) and come out as well as Cornell. In short, the Big Red are looking very dangerous. In fact, ESPN's Doug Gotlieb promintently mentioned Cornell's two big wins following the Syracuse game despite Cornell's defeat. On a related note, the Dagger of YahooSports writes:
Syracuse 88, Cornell 73: Three cheers for Cornell. They managed to weather an insanely hot Syracuse team for almost the entire first of Syracuse's win Tuesday night. It was a valiant effort at the Carrier Dome. And then ... Syracuse figured it out. By the end of the night, the Cuse managed to score an insane 88 points on 70 possessions, good for 1.25 points per trip. That is very, very efficient basketball, which is what happens when you have Wesley Johnson and Andy Rautins and Brandon Triche shooting a combined 57 percent from the field. (Not to mention Rautins' 93 percent effective field goal percentage, which, holy moly.)
  • Unrest in Philadelphia among Penn fans? After the website "Fire Glen Miller" was pulled down a few months ago by its publishers, a new site, "Glen Miller Must Go" was recently launched.

  • Gene Cross, the head coach of Toledo, a Cornell opponent this weekend in the Legends Classic writes on Twitter last night, "Watching Cornell vs Syracuse...I thought WE had shooters...there's nothing like having shot makers!! Game prep continues..Go Rockets!"
