The Cornell Basketball Blog can now absolutely confirm that Ka'ron Barnes ('03) will be announced as a new assistant coach Army later this week.
John Calipari, the head coach of Kentucky told the Trentonian, "...people don’t understand how good teams are. Miami [Ohio], Rider Cornell, you’re talking about basketball teams that no one knows how good they are."
Prior to Firday night's game, Jeff Goodman of Fox Sports noted, "Seton Hall at Cornell, 7 p.m. ET: Talk about two coaches on the opposite end of the spectrum. Bobby Gonzalez of Seton Hall vs. Cornell's Steve Donahue. The Big Red have already beaten Alabama and UMass on the road." Additionally, the Hoops Report proved fairly accurate in their game prediction, "SETON HALL (+3.5) at Cornell: Cornell is playing terrific basketball right now, while Seton Hall is off to a slow start. But Seton Hall has the better talent here, so at some point it has to come together. Tonight is as good of a night as any for Herb Pope, Jeremy Hazell and crew to get their act together."
The Providence Journal writes, "Penn slipped to 10 wins (6-8 in Ivy) a year ago and getting back to the upper half of the league is a must this winter. That may be hard. Not only is Cornell loaded, but Bryant coach Tim O’Shea was very impressed by Harvard’s talent level in a loss on Friday."
The Republican writes, "The 74-61 loss to Cornell Wednesday was UMass’ first loss to an Ivy League team since 1986, when the Minutemen fell to Yale."
From NCAAppi, "Seton Hall may be the sleeper of the Big East with 3 straight wins including an underrated win @ Cornell. As many don't know, Cornell won at Alabama and at UMass to start the year."
The Syracuse Post Standard reports, "Mimi Griswold, the longtime TK99 on-air personality, will become the first regular female announcer in the 30-year history of the Carrier Dome. Griswold’s voice will be heard making various announcements in the Dome during the Syracuse University basketball season beginning with the Tuesday night Syracuse/Cornell game."
From the Syracuse Post Standard, "'I told them one thing, Tuesday night (vs Cornell) is going to be the toughest game they have all year so hopefully they will get ready for that the next three days.' Cornell may prove to be a tough one, even though they lost to Seton Hall, at home, on Friday 89-79."
Harvard's Jeremy Lin told the Boston Globe that his immediate focus is on leading Harvard to its first NCAA tournament, which the Boston Globe characterized as, "a tall task with Cornell returning most of its core from last year's Ivy League champion team." Lin said, "They have a great program going over there and they've won the league two years in a row. They're on the right step in terms of becoming a powerhouse and we would love to take them down.
After falling to Cornell last week, Alabama head coach, Anthony Grant told reporters following the Tide's victory over Providence on Saturday, “I knew the game was going to come down to our ability to make stops. If you look at the Cornell game, we were not able to get stops at the end. But I told them that Cornell was a learning experience and I said then that if we got better from it, it was worth it. At the end, we were determined to get stops and we did.”
