Coach Pitino called my father earlier today and he let them know they were really interested and told him about the offer. My father told me about it, and that was how I found out about the offer... I was definitely excited about it, because it is a great program and a great opportunity, so I was really excited about it. .. I should be visiting pretty soon. I don't want to say an exact date, but I'm supposed to be coming down there soon for an unofficial visit.Odom explained that Pitino was pretty clear as to how he would fit into Louisville's plans. "He said he wants to develop me as a wing because he likes my versatility and ability to play different positions. He said he wants to bring me in and develop me as a three," Odom said, adding that's "definitely" the position where he wants to play.
Odom told Scout.com, “Louisville is definitely at the top of the list because it’s a great, great program and a great opportunity." His father added, “I would say so, (it) significantly (moves them up)."
Odom also has offers from Boston College, Vanderbilt, Michigan, Georgia Tech, Arizona, and Harvard. "I never really thought it would turn out this way, but I always worked hard and I guess it pays off," Odom said. Sources close to the situation suggest that Boston College, North Carolina and Stanford are his leaders, but Odom has not been offered by UNC or Stanford.
With an offer from Louisville, Odom could pick up another offer from UConn when he visits the Huskies this week. “I’m going up to UConn tomorrow,” said Odom. “Coach Calhoun was at a couple of my games in Florida and I guess they liked what they saw. They haven’t offered me yet but they are showing interest so I’m going up there."
In other recruiting news, RedHawkInsider reports that Cornell is interested in 6'7" 185 lb. wing, Jon Harris of Twinsburg, Ohio. Harris helped lead Cleveland area’s Twinsburg North High School to a 13-8 record last season. He averaged 15 points and 8 rebounds per game. This summer he played AAU ball with MBA Elite. Despite his current height, Harris grew up playing guard and has the ballhandling and shooting skills of a guard. Due to a recent growth spurt where he grew 6 inches in the last year, Harris projects to be a wing forward in college. He is projected to grow to 6’9”. He also has a 7’1” wingspan. Harris said the schools that have offered him are Miami-OH, IUPUI, Loyola-Chi, Central Michigan, Kent State, Youngstown State, Morehead State, Wright State, and Northeastern. Duquesne also had offered but is no longer in the picture after receiving another commitment. Eastern Kentucky, Boston University, and Cornell are also recruiting Harris. Harris has not taken any visits yet but plans to visit Miami (OH)and Eastern Kentucky (August 20th). Harris plans to make a decision by the end of the month. He gave his criteria of what he is looking for in a school, “A good basketball program, a good academic program, somewhere where you feel loved, and can fit in and help the team.” Of the schools recruiting him, one school stands out. Harris said, “Miami is my leader.” Harris explains why Miami is the favorite to land his services, “I feel like they are the school that would like to have me the most. It would be just a good situation. They have a legendary coach (Charlie Coles) and I like the other coaches too. Miami also has one of the top business schools in the nation. It would just be a good place to be."
IowaPreps.com reports that Nick Smith, a 6'8" forward from Johnston, Iowa and the Martin Bros. AAU program is interested in the Ivy League. While he doesn't have any D-I offers, he is hearing from Princeton, North Dakota, Albany, South Dakota, Eastern Kentucky, and Idaho State.
New England Recruiting Report provides analysis on five New Jersey players, all members of the NJABC AAU program. Each of them are receving substantial Ivy interest. NERR writes, in part, as follows:
Khalid Lewis-6”3 2011 Trenton Catholic H S. A combo guard who can flat out score the basketball. A complete player who does everything well on the floor. Big East and A10 schools are leading the charge to add this player to their programs.
Chandler Fraser- Pauls – 5”11 2011 Pennington School. A coaches son and plays like that. Has a knack for passing the ball to put his teammates in position to score. Ivy schools have inquired as well as St Joe’s {PA}
Wayne Newsome- 6”6 2010 Piscataway H S. A big man who always wants to improve. Sensational work ethic. Has improved in every facet of game. Can score and rebound. Tremendous upside. Fairfield, Drexel, Rider, Binghampton, Marist, Albany, Quinnipiac and Robert Morris are pursuing to name a few.
Anthony Gaffney- 6”2 Pennington School. Very rare to see a lock down defender during the summer AAU season. Anthony is that player who can get it done on both ends of the court but excels at getting into you defensively.
Frantz Massenat- 6”3 PG Trenton Catholic 2010. No player has made a bigger jump in his recruitment then Frantz. Started with schools like Stony Brook, Boston University, Rider, LaSalle, Iona, St Joe’s, Temple, Drexel and Umass. Now has gotten the attention of certain Big East schools. Can contribute to a team in many ways. Does everything well. Can score 20 one night and then get you 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 9 assists the following night. Knows what it takes to win.
