Fan Reactions to Season Closure

New 10 Now

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell fans thought that with last year's experience in the Big Dance, the Big Red might take the Tigers down.

"It was a little bit disappointing, especially in the first half when they were actually leading. I just thought that they could really pull this off," said Cornell student Cici Hoggard.

For a while, it looked like they might do just that.

"When Missouri started to break away and you saw time just dwindling down. And you're just kind of like okay, guess not," Hoggard said.

"It's disappointing any time you lose a game, but they played hard. They played hard all year. They had a 21 and 10 to finish up the season. It's another great one for them," said Val Klopfer, Cornell Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach.

Fans say their second consecutive appearance in the tournament is a sign of things to come.

"They're starting to see that Cornell is a good team on a regular basis, which is great," said Cornell alumnus Robert Higgins.

And as any true fan will tell you, there's always next year.

"I think they're great. They have a lot of guys returning next year, so they should be right there at the top of the Ivy League again," said Klopfer.

But students say they'll celebrate regardless of the loss.
