With a Win Over Cornell, the Bison Would ...
+ ... win their second game in a row, fifth in their last six games, and improve to 5-3 on the season.
+ ... improve to 2-0 at home this season.
+ ... avenge last year's loss to the Big Red.
+ ... defeat the Big Red for the sixth time in the last seven years.

About the Game
The Bison face a stern test on Wednesday night at Sojka Pavilion, when two-time defending Ivy League champion Cornell pays a visit. The Big Red, who opened the season with road wins over Alabama and UMass, represent one of best teams Bucknell will play during the non-conference portion of its schedule. The Bison will be looking for a carryover from Saturday's big second half at Wagner. Bucknell outscored the Seahawks 46-26 after the break and won 85-61 on the road. That was the team's fourth win in its last five outings, and now the Bison get to play at home for only the second time this year. Likewise, Cornell has been road warriors thus far. The Big Red are 5-1 away from Newman Arena, including three wins (Toledo, Vermont, Drexel) in three days over the weekend at the Legends Classic in Philadelphia. Cornell returned all five starters, including three All-Ivy League picks, from last year's team that won 21 games en route to the conference title. Ryan Wittman leads the team in scoring at 17.1 points per game, while 7-footer Jeff Foote (12.0 ppg, 8.1 rpg) and guards Louis Dale (10.7 ppg, 4.6 apg) and Chris Wroblewski (10.1 ppg) are also double-figure scorers. Cornell's only two losses so far have come against teams from the Big East, Seton Hall and Syracuse.

Bucknell vs. Cornell Series Notes
+The "Battle of the `Nells" is currently tied at 22 games apiece. The series dates all the way back to Cornell's second year as a varsity program in 1899-1900 (Bucknell also defeated a group of Cornell students two years earlier in 1898).
+Bucknell had defeated Cornell five straight times until the Big Red prevailed 75-64 in Ithaca last season.
+The two teams have met every season since 1987-88, and during that current uninterrupted stretch Bucknell is 15-7 against the Big Red, including 10-1 at home.
+Bucknell is 3-0 against Cornell at Sojka Pavilion.
+In last year's game at Newman Arena, Bryan Cohen (20 points) and G.W. Boon (15 points) tried to shoot Bucknell back in the game after falling behind by 22 points, but in the end the hole was just too big and Cornell held on to win 75-64. The Bison pulled within six in the final minute, but the Ivy League champs made enough free throws down the stretch to pull it out. Louis Dale registered 20 points and 10 rebounds and Ryan Wittman scored 14 of his 17 in the second half for the Big Red.
+In the last meeting at Sojka Pavilion in 2007-08, Bucknell turned in one of its most complete efforts of the year and rolled to an 88-75 win over a Cornell team that would go on to win 22 games and capture the Ivy League crown with a 14-0 league mark. John Griffin scored 27 points, Justin Castleberry had 18 and Josh Linthicum 12 for the Bison, who turned the tables on the nation's No. 1 3-point shooting team at the time. Bucknell went 11-for-21 from the arc, while Cornell was just 6-for-24 after coming in shooting 48%. For the Big Red, Collin Robinson had 21 points, Dale added 17 and Foote had 10 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks in his first game in a Cornell uniform. The Bison led 47-30 at halftime and trailed only once all night, at 2-0.

Bucknell vs. The Ivy League
Bucknell is 38-41 all-time against the Ivy League. The Bison have played 44 games against Cornell, but only 35 combined against the other seven Ivy teams. In addition to its 22-22 record against Cornell, Bucknell is 4-2 against Yale, 3-1 vs. Brown, 3-4 vs. Penn, 3-9 vs. Princeton, 1-0 vs. Dartmouth, 1-2 vs. Columbia and 1-1 vs. Harvard. The Bison lost to Columbia 73-59 last week, and on Jan. 4 they will travel to Dartmouth.

Last Time Out
Bucknell broke open a four-point game at the half with a 20-0 run early in the second half en route to an 85-61 rout of Wagner on Saturday night in Staten Island. It was a big night for the Bison backcourt. Bryson Johnson led the way with a career-high 19 points off the bench, Darryl Shazier had a wonderful performance with 17 points, eight assists and five rebounds, and Bryan Cohen scored 13 of his 16 points in the second half.

Inside the Wagner Boxscore
+After some early struggles, the Bison defense turned in a solid performance. Wagner hit its first two 3-point attempts of the game, then went 1-for-24 from the arc the rest of the way. The Seahawks shot just 33.9% overall, 11.5% from 3-point distance.
+Bucknell shot 42.9% overall and 47.6% (10-21) from 3-point range. The Bison connected on their first six 3-pointers of the night, including three from Bryson Johnson.
+Johnson was also fouled shooting 3-pointers twice and converted all of the free throws. At one point in the first half Johnson scored 12 points in 3:24.
+The Bison produced a season-high 18 assists on their 27 field goals, with only 12 turnovers.
+Bucknell allowed its opponent to grab double-digit offensive rebounds for the sixth time in seven games, but the Bison did finish with an overall 41-36 rebounding edge.
+Stephen Tyree is suddenly hot from 3-point distance. After making two treys against Columbia in the previous outing, Tyree buried another one on his only attempt against Wagner. Tyree had six career 3-pointers coming into the season. +Zach Evans checked in late in the first half for his first action of the season. Evans, who had been out with an illness, made a layup after a nice backdoor cut and feed from Patrick Behan for his first points of the year.
+With the one-sided score late in the game, coach Dave Paulsen was able to clear his bench. Probese Leo and Matt Fiery also saw their first action of the year, while freshmen Colin Klebon and D.J. Rowe scored their first career points. Rowe's came on a 3-pointer in the final minute.
+Bucknell had another very good day from the free-throw line, making 21 of 24 (.875). Johnson was a perfect 8-for-8 and has now made 15 in a row.
+The 85 points were the most in a regulation-time road game since an 89-69 win at Lafayette in 2004-05. The 24-point win was Bucknell's largest since a 74-49 defeat of Army in 2006-07, and it was its largest win on the road since a 56-23 rout of Army in 2003-04.

Statistically Speaking
Some other notable numbers from Bucknell's first seven games:
+Bucknell attempted 189 fewer free throws than its opponents last season, but so far this year the Bison seem to have reversed the trend. Bucknell has shot 161 free throws compared to 143 for its opponents.
+Not only is Bucknell taking lots of free throws, it is also making the most of its chances. The Bison are shooting a Patriot League-best 77.6% and are outscoring their opponents 125-97 from the line. Last year, Bucknell shot just 67.8% from the line as a team.
+Bucknell has four players ranked in the top nine in the Patriot League in free-throw percentage: G.W. Boon (2nd, .933), Bryson Johnson (4th, .889), Darryl Shazier (8th, .839) and Stephen Tyree (9th, .833).
+Bucknell has statistically outrebounded four of its first seven opponents, but defensive rebounding continues to be an issue for the Bison. Opponents are averaging 15.3 offensive boards per game.
+The Bison are averaging a respectable 12.4 turnovers per game, while forcing 13.3.
+Bryan Cohen continues to be very accurate from long range this season. He is shooting a league-best 56.5% from the arc (13-23). Take away an 0-for-4 showing against Saint Francis and he is 13-for-19 (.684).
+Freshman Mike Muscala has 10 of Bucknell's 18 blocked shots so far. Only American's Stephen Lumpkins (11) has more among Patriot League players.
+Bucknell is now holding opponents to under 40% shooting (.398) on the season after Wagner's 33.9% effort on Saturday.
+Bison opponents are shooting just 33.3% from 3-point range, and that includes Columbia's 13-for-18 performance last week. Take away that game and Bucknell foes are shooting only 28.0% from the arc.

Spreading the Wealth
+In a demonstration of the team's much-improved depth in 2009-10, the Bison had a different leading scorer in each of the first five games. Bucknell's top point-producers to start the year were Bryson Johnson (18 vs. Mercer), Bryan Cohen (18 vs. Providence), Mike Muscala (12 vs. Bryant), Darryl Shazier (24 vs. Delaware) and Patrick Behan (23 vs. Saint Francis).
+Bucknell had six different players produced a double-figure scoring game last week, but nobody did it twice. In the Columbia game, Behan, Tyree and G.W. Boon scored in double figures, then against Wagner it was Johnson, Shazier and Cohen.

Who's Got Next?
The Bison head north to play two different BUs this weekend. On Friday night they visit Binghamton for a 7 p.m. contest, and after an off day in Boston, they take on Boston University on Sunday at 2 p.m.
