The Harvard coaching staff believed Austin Carroll was a high quality recruiting prospect. Despite a courtship for his services, Carroll will not attend Harvard. In explaining his verbal commitment to Rutgers today, Carroll told Scout.com, “It came down to I’m a basketball player first, so I wanted to do the Big East thing." He further explained, “I was extremely impressed with the Harvard education, but decided to go with Rutgers.’’ The 6'3" combo guard attends Brewster Academy in New Hampshire.
"It was one of the hardest calls I’ve ever had to make,” Carroll told Fox's Jeff Goodman of having to tell Harvard coach Tommy Amaker that he was committing to Rutgers.
