News and Notes: Around the Ivy League

Below, some news and notes around the Ivy League. Above, Cornell's Adam Wire.
  • First, a bit out of bounds, but definitely worth noting. The brand new Republican Party website lists some notable events in the GOP's history. Under 1862, they list as a party accomplishment the passing of the Land-Grant College Act which led to "the establishment of colleges and universities throughout the country. The dozens of land-grant colleges include the Cornell University." And without the Land-Grant College Act, there would be no Cornell Basketball...so thanks GOP!
  • The Ivy League Office will hold its annual media day on October 28. All eight Ivy League coaches will speak with the media. Votes for the preseason league poll are due from the media by this Monday.
  • With "Midnight Madness" tipping off on Friday night, teams throughout the Ivy League will begin full practices on Saturday morning. During the next month, most of the Ivy League teams will have between one and two closed door scrimmages with other college teams. For example, Harvard will take on Quinnipiac in a closed scrimmage, while Cornell will face Navy and Lafayette. Dates, times and locations of these scrimmages are confidential. Both Cornell and Penn will also participate in exhibition game open to the public. Cornell will hold its annual intersquad Red-White game while Penn will play its annual Red-Blue game. Both exhibition games will be played on October 24. The Quakers also plan on playing two scrimmages as well, although locations and opponents are confidential.
  • Speaking of Brown, former Bear player, Keenan Jeppesen is interviewed by the Hoop-La. Jeppsesen left Brown after Glen Miller resigned his position in Providence to assume the head coaching duties at Penn. Jeppesen, a 6'7" former All-Ivy League power forward, attempted to transfer to Penn or Cornell, but an unwritten rule in the Ivy League discourages transfers within the conference.
