Recruiting News

Below, a bit of basketball recruiting news from around the Ivy League...

The New England Recruiting Report notes that New Jersey native, Mitchell Kates, a 6'0" guard is headed to MIT. Kates, a Cornell legacy, had aspirations to play in the Ivy League after playing a postgraduate season at Exeter, but no offers were extended his way. Nevertheless, Kates will get a great education at MIT and will have an opportunity to play college basketball.

Harvard is expected to host a pair of elite recruits this weekend, including Rod Odom, an athletic 6'8" forward from the Middlesex School in Massachusetts and 6'9" Canadian, Dwight Powell, currently enrolled at IMG Academy in Brandeton, Florida. Per Rivals.com, Odom has already visited Harvard, Princeton and Columbia and just returned from a visit to Georgia Tech, where he received a scholarship. Odom also holds scholarships from West Virginia, Seton Hall, Boston College, Rutgers and Xavier. Schools showing strong interest include Florida, Georgetown, Oklahoma St, Memphis, Kentucky and Stanford. Meanwhile, Powell already has a scholarship offer from USC, while there’s interest coming in from numerous other major programs including Penn State, Stanford, California, Memphis, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Georgetown, Marquette and Florida.

The New Ulm Journal reports that Redwood Valley High School's (Minnesota) Mike Felt, a 6'2" guard commited to North Dakota State University after receiving inquiries from Cornell, Northern Iowa, Montana, Nebraska, Drake, George Mason, Air Force, South Dakota State, Eastern Kentucky, Louisiana-Monroe, and Loyola-Chicago.

Lastly, Rivals.com is reporting that Cornell, Harvard and Princeton are involved with 6'7" 230 lb. Cameron Jefferson from Desert Oasis High School in Las Vegas. The physical forward is also hearing from San Diego State, Miami, Colorado State and Arizona State.
