The Saints Should Come Marching Back to Ithaca...

Pictured above, Cornell's Alex Tyler scraps for a rebound in the Albany Times Union Center against Siena last season.

What game does The Cornell Basketball Blog want to see on the Big Red's 2009-2010 schedule? Answer: a Cornell home game against Siena. The Big Red hosted the Saints during 2007-2008 and paid the return visit to Siena last season as part of a two-year contract. The Cornell Basketball Blog wants the series renewed.

Cornell won the first meeting between the squads in Ithaca, 83-77 on November 25, 2007. Last season, Siena turned a 4 point halftime lead over the Big Red into a convincing 74-56 win on November 22, 2008 in Albany. But it should be noted that Cornell was without All-Ivy League guards Louis Dale and Adam Gore in last season's meeting.

Both Siena and Cornell are expected to "3-peat" as champions of their respective conferences this upcoming season with Siena returning four starters, while Cornell returns all five. Accordingly, it is only logical that these two strong mid-major programs from New York State renew their contract for two more seasons in a solid regional battle with Siena starting the series back up again in Ithaca.

Cornell's problem right now in drawing strong opponents to Ithaca like Siena is that the Big Red are extremely dangerous at home. Many top programs are unwilling to risk a defeat in Newman Arena. After all, Cornell is riding a 21-game home win streak, return the five starters and add a couple of impact transfers from places like Kentucky and UMass. Ever heard of them?

Neverthless, if regional teams like Siena and even Syracuse want to claim they are the best in New York State, they ought to get on a bus and prove they can win a game on the road at Cornell.

Time will tell if Siena and Cornell hook-up again for another series.
