Recruiting News

Below, some recruiting news from around the Ivy League....

Ultimately, Harvard's results in the Ivy League were the same in 2008-2009 as in 2007-2008. During both seasons, Tommy Amaker's Crimson finished just above the basement, second-to-last in the conference standings. Nevertheless, Harvard is still attempting to improve its program, which has never won an Ivy League basketball title.

The Crimson have set their sights on several frontcourt recruits. Rivals.com reports that Harvard is pursuing 6'8" Mark Henniger of Jackson High School in Massillon, Ohio. The 200 lb. forward already has offers from Liberty and Kent State and is drawing interest from Navy and Holy Cross as well. Rivals.com and Scout.com both report that Harvard is also high on Dwight Powell a 6'9" forward at IMG Academy in Brandenton, FL, Fred Heldring, a 6'10" post player from New Trier HS, Winnetka, IL, Rod Odom, an athletic 6'8" forward from the Middlesex School in Concord, MA and Will Regan, a 6'9" forward from the Nicholls School in Buffalo, NY.

In other Ivy recruiting news, Yale, Brown and Penn all like 6'7" post player, Mike Gabriel of Chicago Lincoln Park High School. Gabriel already holds a scholarship offer from Northern Illinois. All three Ivies are expected to watch him workout this week according to ChicagoHoops.com.

While Yale recruited four guards in the entering 2009-2010 class, the Bulldogs are recruiting another wing type in Steve Tecker, a 6'5" guard from Northwestern HS in Maple, Wisconsin. He already has a scholarship offer from Saint Louis according to Rivals.com.

NorCalPreps.com reports that Brian Barbour, a 6'0" point guard from Danville, CA, Monte Vista HS has a scholarship offer from Cal-Riverside, but recently visited Columbia. "It was a really good experience. We walked the campus, I met the players and played a little with them. There was a visit to Madison Square Garden and I stayed overnight in a dorm with one of the players."
