Alumni News: Rourke ('06), McCord ('97), Aubry ('99), Hartford ('08), Compton ('97) and more...

Ryan Rourke (Cornell '06) and his Shiga Lakestars (Japan BJ League) were hoping to squeeze into the playoffs with strong play this weekend in the team's final homestand.

Bobby Nash (University of Hawaii grad) and Rourke took care of business on April 19 as Nash pumped in 30 points followed by Rourke's 20 points in the Lakestars' 97-64 win over the visiting Rizing Fukuoka. Unfortunately, Shiga fell the night before to the same Rizing team, 74-67.

Shiga has one last chance to push to itself into the playoffs with a final road game against the Ryukyu Golden Kings, arguably the league's top team which features Anthony McHenry (Georgia Tech), Jeff Newton (Indiana) and Chris Ayer (Loyola Marymount).

NOTES ON SOME OTHER CORNELL ALUMS PLAYING PRO BALL ABROAD:

John McCord ('97, 1st Team All Ivy League '96-'97) is averaging 15.7 points and 7.5 rebounds per game for Antibes of the French Pro B League.

Through the first three games of the season, Jeff Aubry ('99) is averaging 4.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game (3rd in the league) for the Arecibo Capitanes of the Puerto Rico Basketball League (BSN). The defending league champs, Arecibo features former Iowa State All-American Marcus Fizer and Syracuse guard, Bobby Lazor. Aubry is a former NBA D-League player.

Jason Hartford ('08) recently ended his season with Huima, as his squad was bounced from the 1st Division playoffs in Finland.

Alex Compton ('97), one of the most accomplished Cornell players overseas and a long time veteran of the Philippines-PBA league, is currently serving in his second season as an assistant coach of Rain or Shine, which is off to a 5-4 start.

Finally, former Cornell basketball player, Shawn Oliverson, who transferred to Louisiana Tech following one season with Cornell during 2004-2005, earned All-Academic WAC honors. He was part of the same recruiting class that came in with Khaliq Gant and Will Scott.
