Starting with our lead story, coaching staffs from both Penn and Brown both reportedly made in-home visits with 6'7" Matt Glass, a rising junior who recently obtained his transfer release from the University of Massachusetts. Glass is also considering Vermont, which is expected to be the leader for his services because it is able to offer a scholarship and is close to his hometown. Wherever Glass commits, like all Division I transfers, he will be required to sit out the 2009-2010 season. But you have to wonder... would Penn invite Glass to campus to attend Penn's Group Therapy Session on April 26? Cornell is also reportedly in discussions with several transfers.
Another big story is Harvard's focus on filling its roster with point guards. After Harvard was unable to land the services of 6'0" Kyle Randall of Hermitage, Pa., who committed to UNCG last week, the Crimson continue to overrecruit point guards. Sources have indicated that the Crimson have extended an offer to 6'0" Dee Goens of Atlanta, Georgia and hope to add him to the incoming 2009 class.
In other news, Rivals.com reports that Long Island guard, Dan DiVietri (Chaminade High School) is considering some prep school options. DiVietri told Rivals that he is still getting some interest from Cornell, Princeton, Brown and Dartmouth. Also from Long Island, per Scout.com, Josh Elbaum (St. John the Baptist High School) expects to enroll in a postgrad program after getting some sniffs from Yale and Cornell.
Meanwhile, Ameer Brown, the vocal Blair Academy product who had aspirations of playing in the Ivy League has committed to attending Division III Weslyan College. Brown attended Penn's Elite Camp last summer. Also out of Blair Academy, rising senior Hakeem Harris, a 6'1" guard is receiving major Ivy interest, but is also getting serious courtship from numerous high majors according to Scout.com.
Scout.com is also reporting that 6'5" Chase Plummer out of St. Patrick's High School in New Jersey has landed a scholarship to Robert Morris. The 2010 prospect also has Ivy interest.
Also receiving Ivy interest is Nolan Hart, a 5'10" guard from Albany Academy in Albany, New York. Scout.com ntoes that Hart has drawn interest from Harvard, Dartmouth and Columbia.
Finally, one of the big recruiting battles is over Rod Odom, an athletic 6'8" forward who maintains he is seriously considering the Ivy League even though he holds numerous high major scholarship offers. Odom reportedly visited Princeton twice in the last month.
