Cornell Basketball in the News: Cornell’s Steve Donahue to Teach Clinic

From PhillyBurbs.com:

Cornell’s Donahue to teach at GA coaches-v.-cancer clinic Sunday

Steve Donahue has achieved a lot in his 10 years as the men’s basketball coach at Cornell University, most notably the back-to-back Ivy League championships and NCAA tournament appearances the Big Red have earned in the last two seasons.

Sunday at 9 a.m., Donahue will be sharing some of his coaching wisdom along with three others to raise money for the Danny Craige Coaches v. Cancer Basketball Coaches Clinic at Germantown Academy.

“It was an opportunity,” Donahue said, “to come back and help out a terrific cause.”

A native of Delaware County, Donahue played at Cardinal O’Hara and Ursinus College before embarking on a long coaching career in which he worked as an assistant for Skip Werley at Springfield-Delco, Fran O’Hanlon (now the Lafayette coach) at Monsignor Bonner, Herb Magee at Philadelphia University and Fran Dunphy (now at Temple) at Penn.

“I’ve been fortunate to work with good coaches through the years,” said Donahue, a 25-year friend of GA boys basketball coach and athletic director Jim Fenerty, the clinic’s host.

At Sunday’s clinic, Donahue plans to go over pre-practice drills, drills focusing on offense and defense, and end-of-practice conditioning drills.

The clinic’s other presenters will include St. Benedict Prep (N.J.) boys coach Dan Hurley and Philadelphia University women’s coach Tom Shirley.

The clinic is open to coaches of all levels, from youth to college, boys and girls. The first 200 to register will receive a free gift.

Registration is $60, with every cent going to the American Cancer Society’s Coaches vs. Cancer program. For more information, contact Fenerty at 215-646-3300 ext. 217 or james.fenerty@germantownacademy.org.
