News and Notes: Around the Ivy League

Below, just some news and notes around the Ivy League, including some links to news articles of interest. Above, the "Big Three"-- Cornell's Louis Dale, Jeff Foote and Ryan Wittman. Photos by Tina Chou.
  • Cornell fans will be pleased to learn that the Big Red have no injuries heading into this weekend's game at Alabama.
  • Cornell Athletics offers more details on Redcast subscription packages, click here.
  • Rivals.com lists Cornell at Alabama as one of the country's five best games during the weekend (and they include Monday night as well). Rivals.com writes:
Cornell at Alabama, Saturday, 2 p.m.:
Anthony Grant's debut as Alabama's coach comes against a Cornell team that has made back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances and returns eight of its top nine scorers. Alabama returns four starters, and one of them is sophomore forward JaMychal Green, who should have a big game against a less-than-athletic Cornell frontcourt. But the Big Red are solid from 3-point range and have the talent to make Grant and the Tide sweat it out in the opener.
  • The Burlington Free Press writes, "UVM’s first six games — at Loyola, at Buffalo, at Rutgers, at Providence, vs. Cornell in Philadelphia, and at Drexel — are testers."
Ivy League
Cornell: Most. Obvious. Pick. Ever. Seriously — the Big Red have won two straight titles and return their starting lineup. Enough said.
  • Mid-Majority.com picks the Harvard at Holy Cross game as the best mid-major game of Friday evening and notes, "Crimson fans are hoping this is the year Tommy Amaker can loosen the stranglehold Princeton, Penn, and more recently Cornell (once again picked to win the Ivy) have had on the league's automatic birth."
  • The Yale Daily News previews the Bulldogs' weekend action in the Connecticut Six Classic and notes, "The Bulldogs, who finished tied for second in the Ivy League (13–15, 8–6 Ivy) and knocked off eventual league champion Cornell at home last season, are ranked fifth in the preseason media poll."
  • In the Harvard Crimson's preview of Ivy football this weekend, the newspaper notes, "At least Cornell has its men’s basketball team." Actually, note to the writers up at the Crimson... Cornell has a lot more then basketball. Did you hear ab0ut Cornell's lacrosse, hockey, wrestling and track programs? Just to name a few. They are all nationally ranked.
  • The NCAA Network writes with respect to Penn, "They’ve gone from first to worst in the Ivy League."
