Recruiting News

Northstar Basketball Blog has some updates on several Ivy League recruiting prospects.

Tyreak Johnson, a 6'1" point guard from the class of 2009 out of St. Raymond's in the Bronx has verbally committed to Howard. Cornell looked at Johnson during the recruiting process but opted to go in a different direction.

Matt Brown, a 6'3" guard from Northfield Mt. Hermon School in Massachusetts is a prospect in both basketball and football. In basketball, he has interest from Stanford, Notre Dame, Providence, South Carolina, Miami, Harvard, and Fordham.

Denzel Brito, 6'0" guard in the class of 2010 from Lawrence Academy in Massachusetts has interest from Stanford, Providence, Davidson, Oregon State, and Kentucky. He already has offers from Fordham, Delaware, Northeastern, Virginia Commonwealth, and Harvard.

Ryan Canty, a 6'8" forward with St. John’s high school in Washington, D.C. has interest from Yale, The Citadel, and UC-Riverside.

The Dayton Daily News references an arrest of a Cornell recruiting prospect, Geron Johnson. The Dayton Daily News writes:

Citing scout.com as its source, Cornellbasketball.blogspot.com posted this on Saturday about Dunbar High School guard Geron Johnson and where he might be playing his college basketball:

“(Johnson) has interest from Cornell, Wright State, Cleveland State, Kentucky, Miami (Ohio), Duquesne, Penn State, Dayton, Minnesota, Auburn and Sinclair Community College.

“Of those, scholarships have already been offered by Wright State, Cleveland State, Sinclair and Duquesne.”

Johnson, a junior, averaged 18.1 points per game and earned the Dayton City League Player of the Year award. He was also first team Division II Southwest Ohio All-District and honorable mention All-Ohio.

No mention in the report of how Johnson’s arrest on burglary charges late in the season factors into the equation.
