Recruiting News

Many Cornell fans have expressed hope that the Big Red lands a new post player in its next recruiting class. Well, perhaps that player is Fred Heldring, a 6'10" center in the class of 2010 from New Trier High School near Chicago.

Heldring plays for the same AAU program that produced Cornell's Chris Wroblewski, the Rising Stars program. According to major recruiting services, Heldring has received steady recruitment attention from high majors like Wisconsin, Iowa, Ohio State, Illinois, Northwestern, UCLA, USC, Oregon, Boston College, Wake Forest, and Gonzaga as well as from mid majors like Santa Clara, Ball State, Lehigh and virtually the entire Ivy League. In fact, Heldring has yet to play in any summer camps or AAU tournaments during the critical summer of 2010 between his junior and senior years of high school, but nevertheless, schools such as Davidson, Southern Illinois, San Francisco and Wisconsin-Milwaukee have already extended scholarship offers.

Despite all of this recruitment attention, Heldring told RecruitingRumors.com during November 2008 that Cornell was his leader and that "Cornell assistant Zach Spiker is really doing a good job with him and his family."

In other recruiting news, GoBlueWolverine.com is reporting that 6'7" 210 lb. Matt Kamieniecki of Clarkston, Michigan has scholarship offers from IPFW and Western Michigan and is being closely monitored by Cornell, Penn, Michigan, Dayton, and Butler.
