Recruiting News

Below, some recruiting news around the Ivy League.

Harvard has landed a verbal commitment and it is a big one, at least in size. The Crimson have secured the services of Ugo Okam, a 7'0" 250 lb. center from Monteverde Academy in Monterverde, Florida. Okam is widely considered a long term project by most recruiting services and may be a few years away from being able to contribute at the college level. But as the old adage goes, "you can't teach size" (especially in the Ivy League), and Okam has size. The Crimson, Daily Pennsylvanian and Florida Hoops Recruits are running stories on the commitment. The Crimson is also reporting that Okam held a scholarship offer to Vanderbilt, although this information is incorrect. Several reliable sources reported to us that Okam decided between Harvard, Penn and Loyola Marymount. He visited all three schools in the last month and had interest from other low Division I programs.

Kaneland, Illinois forward, Dave Dudzinski committed to Holy Cross according to the Kaneland Chronicle and other reports. He received offers from Cornell, Brown and Princeton. Dudzinksi also visited Austin Peay. Initially, Dudzinski had his heart set on playing in the Ivy League, but later decided he needed a full scholarship, which Patriot League schools now offer.

Scout.com reports that Aaron Brown, a 6'4" guard from St. Benedict's Prep in Newark, N.J. committed to Temple. At least according to several recruiting services, he held offers to Harvard and Penn.

Speaking of Harvard recruiting, Pe'Shon Howard, a Crimson prospect and 6'2' guard out of Oak Hill Academy in Virginia told the NBEBasketball Report that he has only one scholarship offer left on the table, and it is from South Florida. The other schools recruiting him have since backed off.

MusketerReport.com notes that Desmond Hubert, a 6'8" forward from New Egypt, New Jersey is hearing from Harvard, Xavier, North Carolina, Texas, Villanova, Pittsburgh, Maryland, Penn State, Wake Forest, NC State, Duke, and Virginia Tech. He is a member of the class of 2011.
