News and Notes

Below, some Cornell Basketball news and notes.
  • Cornell's Geoff Reeves (above) gets mention on the widely read blog, Club Trillion, which is published by Ohio State's Mark Titus.
  • Cornell's first two games of the season-- at Alabama (11/14) and at UMass (11/18) will both be streamed through online video/audio. Check the Alabama and UMass websites for more details on registration and costs. In fact, it appears that every single Cornell game this season, with the exception of the game at South Dakota, will be televised and/or streamed with online video/audio.
  • Cornell has yet to play a single game of the 2009-2010 season, but we are already thinking about the strength of this team for the following year. Cornell's addition of Anthony Gatlin, a transfer from Centenary College was a major offseason acquisition for the Big Red. Awiry 6'8" guard/forward, Gatlin has two years of Division I experience under his belt, having appeared in 58 games and started 28 while at Centenary. He has already scored in double figures eight times during his young career. As a sophomore in 2008-2009, Gatlin started 16 of 27 games and averaged 4.7 points and 2.6 rebounds in 18.0 minutes per game. He broke into double figures in four games and earned substantial minutes against major Division I competition, including Mississippi State, Baylor, LSU, Kansas State, Texas Tech, and Missouri. But Gatlin was even more effective when he played long stretches. For example, last season he played in 13 games of at least 20 minutes or more. In those 13 games of 20+ minutes, he averaged 28.7 minutes while posting 8.5 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. In the 4 games where he played at least 30 minutes, he averaged 13.5 points and 6.0 rebounds. On the season, Gatlin shot 41% from the floor and 38% from beyond the arc. As a freshman during 2007-2008, Gatlin averaged 19.6 minutes per game, playing in all 31 Centenary games and starting 12. He was fifth on the team in scoring at 4.4 per game while averaging 2.4 rebounds per contest. As a freshman he scored 13 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in the Gents 70-66 upset win over Texas Tech. As a "4th year junior" next season, Gatlin could be an immediate All-Ivy candidate.
